Unhappy truck just ate a belt!

Luckily I have life time napa stuff but why would my truck destroy a belt like this, it was only 6 months old with not many miles on it. I think when it happend I got on it a little bit but not for long and then I noticed my a/c was getting warm. When I got home I checked it and my truck ate the belt for lunch.

Thanks

if it ate one side of the belt you might check your tensioner . if the bearings bad it will walk the belt of to one side of the pulley also my bearing was good but the pulley itself was wore more on yhe inside also walking the blet off.

Many times the pivot point of the tensioner wears out and causes the pulley to tilt. There should be very little front to back play on the tensioner arm.

You have to replace the entire unit if there is.

Unhappy Belt problems

I would take a good look at the belt tensioner as others have metioned.

The bearing in the idler may be bad or the spring broke in the tensioner. Cummins engines don't have many problems with belts unlike those Power Joke engines.

Just to echo everyone above check the belt tensioner. Had the same thing happen on our 91, it was riding off the roller. New tensioner and new belt, no more problems.

Yip, i have seen where the plastic on the tensioner was missing and the belt was running on the housing the bearings sits in on the tensioner pulley!!

Belt has to make a super tight bend and doesnt get the tension it needs either.

New belt and new tensioner and you should be good to go either way..

Good Luck

Jason
