truck hasn't been started in a few years....

hey guys the search feature is not working (again) on my puter
bought a 95 cummins & been putting new fuel lines & brake lines etc. It sat outside & hasn't been started since prob 2005. Is there a way to run the oil pump mechanically or something before firing it up?
also is it a good idea, or pretty much required to crack open the injector lines until fuel comes out etc. before starting it? do you crack the lines at the injector pump or over by where they bolt into the intake manifold?? trying to get it started at the mechanics shop today asap (hes fixing the non diesel stuff & we need to get it fired up).
thanks thanks thanks

I would crank it with the shut off solenoid unplugged until it got some oil pressure. As for bleeding I always loosen the overflow valve and pump the bulb on the LP til all the air is out and then at the injectors.

Hard to spin the oil pump on one of these since it's part of the gear train in the front of the engine.........the distributor-bit trick from gas engines won't work. You can pump clean oil into the 1/8" fitting on top of the oil filter housing, that's where my pre-luber does, just make sure it's filtered.

Started my '95 after it sat for 2 1/2 years - I just changed the oil/oil filter and a new fuel filter & put some Stanadyne in the tank, didn't do anything else. I had a lot of grayish white smoke for the first 10-15 min of driving, but it cleared up after the old fuel worked it's way through.
