Transmission troubles
I bought a 96 12v 4x4 2500 two months ago and i love it.. but...within the last few days the overdrive has started hoping in and out at around 48-54mph. If I speed up to 55 if locks right in. Any good ideas??
Also as I mash the pedel from a stop she jumps right up and takes off at a steady rate but when it hits overdrive its katy bar the door, it really takes off. Is this because of a high stall converter??? Thats what it seems like. It has the 3:5? gear. Thanks from a newbee and great site.

If O/D is hunting then your TPS either needs cleaning or replacing. They are not cheap, do a search for info on cleaning yours. Basically drill a small hole in it (placement matters), then spray some electric contact cleaner in to it. Drain and let dry, reseal hole with silicone.
The takeoff you feel after O/D shifts is the T/C locking up, eliminating the slipping fluid coupling.

i had this problem..... let your tranny get good and warm... put it in neutral and check the fluid.... mine was 1.5 quarts low cause the guy that serviced it at the dealership before i got it didn't know how to read the dip stick...... try that and see what happens....
I work for a transmission shop and if your TPS isn't the problem then check the battery cables really good. Sometimes I have even sanded the block where the battery cables connect because of the paint. This particular problem shows up mostly on the 98.5 and up but have seen it happen on the 94-98 as well.
