i got a 97 automatic that has 180 thousand on it. heres the problem ive got when i put the truck in gear with the brake pedal applied down like i was going to stop it will bog down and eventually die.does this sound like trans or what

 

Sounds like the lock up converter is not unlocking. I would say stuck solenoid.

 

whats the idle at wiyh the truck in park?... can to two foot the brake and gass to keep it running with it in gear?

 

Either that, or the idle is to low.

 

when brake applied and gas down to floor it will still die.if soliniod is stuck what can i do.

 

oh with truck in park it idles at 1000 to 1100

 

Put in a new one.

 

While you are there you should make sure all the valves move in the valve body.
A stuck valve could be trouble too.

 

tried all gears today still does same thing. i got under the truck 2day to find out the trans. isnt even bolted down so i know some 1 has been in there.

So the engine was the only thing holding the trans in place??

 

My work truck is a 97 also. It does the same exact thing. Havent done that when i first got it. Thought it was the fuel filter at first but nope. And i dont think its idleing too low either.

 

Some times the screen infront of the solinod gets plugged up. So all you have to do is pull the pack down pull the gasket off and replace with a new one.

 

today i bolted it down to c if acted any different. i drove it about 2 miles and it would goall the way tell ovd. the rpms just went to 3000 and it wouldnt shift into ovd. but the rpms at idle are at 800 to900 now so i thank that is what it should be at right or wrong.
