Transmission Dipstick Leak
I believe I've found the source of my tranmission fluid leak. Has anyone changed the o ring or seal where the dipstick enters the pan? If so, any tips on replacement part numbers etc would be appreciated.

I just put in my new Goerand tranny and like you could not get it to seal. I tried the new seal he supplied - no good. I tried using two orings - no good. I tried seating it two more times with new orings - no good. I finally had him send me the later style dipstick that uses a smaller dipstick and a sleave type seal. I think I finally got it worked out. From what I read the tube is not real expensive and the dipstick the same. It might be worth a try. I would try just replacing the oring first though. I can't imagine it is more than a buck or two and there is only one belhousing bolt to remove.
I replaced my dip stick tube, as mine broke at the weld where the bracket is. Also used a new sleeve type washer. Easy replacement. Don't know if the newer style sleeve will fit the original tube though. Never thought much about what would happen when I pulled the tube out, just have some replacement fluid on hand. I think the tube was $17 & the seal was $2 from the dealer.
I picked up the original type o-ring seal today and will replace tomorrow. If that doesn't work and I get a new stick and seal do I need to specify the new style or newer year, or are all the replacements being sold of the new design?

Put 2 O-rings on the stick ...that will work ... Thats What I am running right now ... and it worked great .
I think the o-rings are a AS568A Dash # 113

If you want the new style tube and seal tell the parts man to check supercedes on original part number. The new tube and seal should pop up on his computer. You need the new tube with the new seal, bottom has a taper to it to fit the new seal.
Just put one new o-ring on the original dipstick. Looks like someone had used a new style seal (or something similar) on the original stick. It was not an O ring for sure. It popped in pretty solid but it usually leaks overnight so I won't know for sure until morning. Thanks for all the help and if it doesn't seal I go straight to the new style.

I have a fluid leak at the transmission dipstick tube on my '95 as well. I visited the dealer yesterday to try and get a new tube and seal but the parts man was unable to find an updated part number. Can anybody tell me either the part numbers or which year Dodge began using the improved tube and seal? Thanks.
I don't know the part number or the year they upgraded. If he has any in stock you could check the design of what they show currently for a 1995. The original design had a groove for an o-ring. The newer one will be tapered without the groove
Thanks sjester. I will have to try and make it back down to Cheyenne or Fort Collins. I'm in Laramie for school and ironically enough- even though Dodge sells a trim package for our trucks named after this place there is no Dodge dealer to be found.

If it is the old style, which I bet it is, you can probably find an O ring that will fit at a hardware store. Not hard to unbolt the dipstick tube and pop it out. I did mine after draining the fluid however so it may make a mess without draining the pan first

You don't have to drain the trans to take the tube out.
It's a 5 cent O-Ring. But you can smear a thin coat of RTV on it and put it back in if you want.
I have the same problem with my cable shift Chryslers. The RTV takes care of it in seconds. In that case, the trans has to be drained because the cable is near the bottom.
