transfer case questions
transfer case questions
I've got a 241 ?d that I just bought. The round tag on the back cover says it's a 241dhd. The New Process sticker says dhd as well along with manufacture date and fluid capacity. I called Rockland Standard and talked with George. He said the dhd's had a pto cover on the passenger side of the case. This xfer case doesnt have a pto. Is it possible to bolt a dhd rear cover to a dld front?
I'm not sure how this would work because the dld and the dhd have different
length main shafts. 18 1/2" and 19 1/4". Unless the extra 3/4" is on the rear end of the shaft.
any ideas????
thanks

sorry for the repeat thread. My computer isnt updating when I visit this site so I didnt see it. The xfer case came off a NV4500. I dont have a auto case to compare it to. My last DHD case had the pto cover on it. I was just trying to get the proper main shaft for it but it turned out that I had or the speed one from a previous wrecked truck. The only difference on the two is the type of gear for the speed sensor in the back of the case
Ok, it's me again. I talked with George again. he's either wrong or I'm confused. The xfer case has a shaft that had 32 splines. George says that is a dld shaft. the planetary gear has 6 small gears in it. I believe that is a dhd planetary. so which is which?
TRY THIS SITE.
Scroll down to the specs on the 2nd gen 2500.
It seems Dodge used the smaller 1.375 output shaft in the earlier model trucks.
This hold true for the 3500's even with a stick.
It was also hit or miss with a PTO.
The 1.608 output shaft started to show up in some 96 models, but very few.
97 they became more common, but were hit and miss with the speedo hole.
No speedo hole in the 98 and up.
Hope this helps you out.

Thanks. I called them and wow? I think the guy told me that they used 5 different output shafts on the dhd transfer case. Any way, I have my answers
