Question Trans temp sensor

recently took a trip pullin a dmax to Mississippi. an hour into the trip my trans temp lite came on. pulled over decided to kill some time by gettin somethin to eat and let it cool down. b4 we ate i checked the temp of the trans pan and front cooler with my hand. both felt no more than 120-130* let it set for about an hour and lite was still on....let it run for a few minits and it went off. gave us no more trouble until the ride home where it REALLY screwed us over. after i repaired the blown cooler line and filled the trans back up it wud not stop jumping in and out of lockup. disconnected the temp sensor and it was fine jus no more OD. after about 10 miles in 3rd at 45mph i decided to ground pin 54 and 55 and manually get OD and lock up back. a friend of mine suggested using an 1156 or 1157 bulb to simulate a trans temp sensor being as i am at the moment flat*** broke. i thot about it for a minit and i think it might work but im not sure. anyone ever done this before?

For about 5 bucks you could do what I did and wire in a couple toggle switches,Read my thanks bill50cal post,I've never been more happy with an automatic as I am right now,I'm not flat but I cant justify the 60 bucks for a speedo sender,If thats even why my speedo quit, for all I know my pcm is done, just dont want to bother right now, happy to have my own control.

yes i read your post and chimed in. i already have the switches.and id really rather just let the trans do the shifting if i dont have a clutch pedal. i will keep the switches for backup tho.

You can trick a trans temp sender into reading normal by unplugging the sensor on the cooler line about a foot forward of the tranny, driver's side then shorting across the two wires with a 1000 ohm resistor (25¢, Radio Shack)
Leave the sensor disconnected.

1 1k ohm resistor later my trans is shifting normally again. ill wire in od and lock up override switches later. bill they need to change you from "registered user" to "Encyclopedia Infidelica" i looked hi and lo for a sensor test as far as ohm readings go. nothing i have access to shows anything on it. my main sources for daig and repair are Identifix and OnDemand5

Only thing with the 1k ohm solution is it's a very good idea to have a tranny temp gauge because otherwise you could trash the tranny even on a daily driver no towing truck just from a low ATF level caused by a slow leak.
Gauge will give you some advance warning.
Tranny temps can run pretty low in the winter, a gauge that reads to 0 is better than one that starts off at 120 and the needle never moves.
I use this one, not all that pricey, comes in several colors> http://www.jegs.com/i/Cyberdyne/280/...0002/-1?CT=999

They are the most common gauge size, 2-1/16" diameter.
