Trans Leak 47Re

Does anyone know why my trans would be leaking from the circled area. It is where the 2 parts of the trans bolt together. Do i just need to tear it apart and put a new gasket in?

any help would be great.

Need to take the OD section off and put a new gasket in their. not that hard, drain the trans put a jack under the motor pan or on the trans pan, put light preassure on the jack remove mount and cross beam, remove drive shaft/s. pull the 6 bolts that hold them together and may have to slightly tug or pry them appart ( do not turn them after appart) one person can handle the weight of it. put new gasket on if use RTV use (black or grey) only they stand up to the oils. you can get a large tube at local hardware don't buy the make a gasket RTV same thing twice as much. reverse your steps and done you can do this in about 4 hours. I have done it many time I think i'm down to 2 hrs.

Thanks for the tips. im going to tackle it tomorrow night. when you say dont turn them once apart as in spin the output shaft? a buddy of mine said it can be a pain to line the parking pall back up. what are your thoughts on that and do you have any tricks.

thanks for the help,
Grason

Check the cooling lines too - mine developed a small leak where they're routed near the pan from rubbing against each other. The fluid sprayed back & I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from - thought I had a bad gasket as well.

Before you take it apart, check the boss on the case where the cooler line fitting threads in, make sure the case isn't cracked there. I've seen it before- it seems it can happen if that fitting is overtightened.

x2 on the cooler line- just replaced the brass fitting on mine two weeks ago!! It sprayed onto that seam and looked like it was leaking there.

We got it fixed, i had just picked the trans up from a guy to replace my crapped out one in my truck. Who ever put it together when they rebuilt it did a half *** job and didnt get the gasket in correctly, part of it was folded over and the bottom bolt hole wasn't lined up so they just shoved the bolt through the gasket and made a new hole. So needless to say im not shocked that it was leaking after seeing that. I have to thank my buddy Mike for his help on friday night to knock it out and get it fixed. With out his assistance i would have been a tuff job.
