Smile Trans Fluid type ...?

Hi Guys
I was doing some reading on some of the post about trans fluid... I had a little leak in a fitting ... by the time I got done there was a quart or so in my little bucket .

I was not going to pour it back in and I did not know what was in the trans ... there was a amsoil oil system and air filter ...so it could be amsoil trany fluid .

I don't have any history on the truck ... The trany is not the original ... I don't know who did it ... There is a mag-hy-tech deep sump pan ...

So I was reading through the dodge truck owners manuel and it said to use the mopar trans fluid and dexton III if mopar is not availble .

So I add about a quart of dextron to this trans ... once I make sure that fitting is not leaking I am going to change the trans fluid .

I'm not sure what type I should use ... I am considering amsoils full syn trans fluid ... what type of filter do these transmissions use ...?

Thanks Guys

Greg

Use ATF +3 or ATF +4. Valvoline and Castrol make +3 and +4 will be around soon. As far as I know +4 is only from Mopar right now. +3 is much cheaper and it works fine in the trucks that call for it. Walmart sells ATF +3 in at least to bands. Its about $2.18 per quart at Wally World, I just put in 10 quarts, those double deep pans like their ATF.

I buy my ATF +4 off ebay by the case, I have three trucks and the case of gallons works out great price wise.

I've been using Dex III plus Lube-Gard additive for 240k trouble free miles.
Heck with Chrysler plus 3 and 4 rip-offs.
69¢/qt for Valvoline brand at Costco for Dex

BUT, will using Dex or Mercron or whatever effect the shifting? And, what does the Lube-gard do?

Smile re: Lubegard

I put in the dextron mercon III with the lubegard ... it's been 2 weeks now since i posted this ...it's fine and very happy .
The lubegard is a friction modifirer ... for all the reading I have been doing and on the trans filter kit it says in big letters that this transmission will chatter with out the proper fluid .
I put mobil atf dino trans fluid , but in a few months after i get to know this truck I will switch over to amsoil .
