tranny will not upshift

my 95 cummins turbo auto tranny will not always upshift from 2nd to 3rd. when the oil is warm it normally works well. it has 130,000 miles and this problem happens daily. Oil level and appearance are normal. what would be the most likely cause of this and has anyone else had this problem?

Does anybody have any ideas as to what would cause hard upshifting from second to third? I looked all around and I have only found one person that has had this problem. No reason was given.
What tranny did dodge put in 4x2's CTD in 1996?

You may want to start with the Throttle Position Sensor if you have an automatic and work you way from there.

It would be helpfull if you would add the type of truck you have in your signature so the members can help you better. This informaton can be added in the user CP.

If I am guessing right that you have an automatic, do a search on TPS. They get dirty and the signal to the trans does not work properly. The are about $150 from Cummins and easy to install.

Poor shifts from 2- 3 CAN be inner lip seal groove being machined to deep in high , reverse drum. If the shifts are good when warm, probably the seals. The seals in the front clutch leak until they are warm. To check, the front pressure tap ( front serv release) you will see probably 30-35 psi on the gage when the transmission should be shifting. But no shift. The pressure is there but low tells you the shift valve moved and the pressure is leaking off. Air test will show it. I hope that is correct as that is what I was told a long time ago. I am going to leak test my transmission when I get time to see how much time I have untill It needs finding a home. Regards Jim

The transmission in electronic and gets it signal to shift from the TPS.

My actual problem was 3rd to 4th shift. Check to make sure on the drivers side of the transmission toward the front, that the springs (i think the more proper name is TV springs) didnt come off. I had a shop charge me $45.00 to tell me that and put them back on.

Mine got to not going into od and not locking up the convertor. Cleaned the electrical conectors on the trans and put dielectric grease on them and no more problems.
