tranny slipping?

This morning, for the first time, the tranny slipped.
I wasnt accelerating hard or anything, and lately the truck has just been seeing highway cruising 95% of the time.
No mods other than my sig. But sure enough, under light pedal, started to shudder and wouldnt upshift.
I gave it more fuel, felt the trans slipping then finally upshifted into gear and along i go, just like normal.
Then, the rest of my 50 mile commute, no out of the ordinary shifting or slipping.

I guess my question is, how much time can i expect before this thing is toast?
I was planning on a new TC , maybe a valve body , but like all things on the to do list, didnt plan for it now.
Im hoping I can keep it under control for a bit. When its time, is a TC swap a horrid job?
I consider myself a pretty decent mechanic, but trans issues has never been my focus.

Any and all ideas are appreciated, thanks

I would say by the time you get ready for the TC the tranny will have yto be rebuilt. It would be woth it anyway. The TC swap would probably be about how you imagined it drop the tranny ect. I wouldn't see awhole lot of difference between it and any other TC swap. I haven't done one so i am not sure thats just my gues.

But i would definetly say a TC , Valve body will not fix it by the time you get ready to do it.
Just my .02$

Mine had developed a shudder prior to the TC & VB upgrade. Without knowing how much it has slipped, I'd say only changing the TC is dependent on how many miles are already on the tranny along with how clean the fluid is. I'd change both the TC & VB (at a minimum) and not just the TC.

Sorry, should have posted milage,
I just rolled over 103,000 the other day.
I know I should have the thing gutted and rebuilt, but
A. the down time, I wouldnt know where around Chicago or north of to take it for fast competent service.

and B. MAn, these are expensive rebuilds, I know once its done thats it, and I wont have to worry,
Guess im just tight with my money, and forking down upwards of $2000 is painfull

I believe Dave Gorend is in your part of the country but I don't have a number for you - maybe some of the other members can help. I would give him a call to get suggestions or options.
