Slipping Tranny
Slipping Tranny
It finally happened. I was pulling a trailer the other day and the tranny started to slip. I was able however to drive it 300 miles home with out the trailer attached. Does anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong, and suggestions on the best and most cost effective way to fix it so i wont have to worry about it again. I have 131,000 miles on it. I think i started my problem two weeks ago when I went to Louisville, KY as i was weighing 29,000 lbs. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

What gear were you in when it started to slip, OD, third, was the TC locked or unlocked? What year truck? Any modifications to the engine or transmission? Give us more information so we can make a better judgment.
With 131,000 miles and pulling 29,000 lbs the whole transmission probably needs to be freshened up but like I said above give us some more info.

It first slipped at 40 mph on flat ground on overdrive, i forgot to take it out of overdrive after going through a construction zone. Then it did it again after going through a town in 2nd gear. At that point I pulled off the road and stoped. Unhooked the trailer and drove it another 300 miles home with it only slipping one more time. It is a 1999 with the only modifcation is a timbren kit and a K&N filter. Never made any sounds that i could hear over the engine just felt it shudder.
