Alright guys, need some help. Got a 97 4x4 auto. It started recently shutting off at idle in gear. It feels like a manual starting out in 5th gear. Sometimes it runs fine then when I come to a stop the rpm's drop and it kills the engine. Does this in all gears, except nuetral and park. starts normal idles normal in P and N. put it in gear without giving gas to bring up rpm's it will die. Then once I'm rolling it feels like it runs up to top gear way before it should. Had a friend that works at a dodge shop hook it up to his scanner. No trouble codes, said TQ was acting right etc. Anyone expirence this or heard of someone with this problem.

 

Sounds like TC is locking up to me.

 

That's what my friend thought, but he had it hooked up to his scanner while it was doing it, and it said the TQ was acting fine.

 

I want to say theres a little solenoid type deal on the valvebody that causes this problem. My dad had that same problem on his 97 and replaced that electronic coil/solenoid and it was all better. Maybe someone else will chime in on this and clarify.
