My torque converter occasionally stays locked up when i come to a stop and will not unlock unless i shift to neutral and back to drive I would like to fix this problem but don't really know where to look ,don't want to wreck my new tranny .truck is a 98 quad cab auto 47re 4x4 .

 

can you force it out of lockup with the overdrive button. what about dropping from drive into 2, 1, what hapens, still locked up

Had the same problem a while ago and it was the Trans speed senser. Cheap fix.

what is happening to let you know it is locked up when idling and stuff....?

 

When i try to take off from a stop the engine just lugs like it is in to high of gear or the brakes are stuck on

 

If the TC was truely locked the engine would stall when you come to a stop.
I think you have something else going on.

 

true, very true. maybe it doesn't shift down out of third gear. i know i can still take off very well in second so this might be what is happening. just a thought. possibly a valve body problem?

 

Mine stalled when coming to a stop cause it was in lockup. After an hour or so it performed perfectly , but I got it fixed. The truck shifts better , it had been holding 1st. gear till over 2000 rpms for a while, now the shifts are great.

 

if its your brakes when you went to take off, you willl feel a clunck, that is happening to mine... its the rubber hoses to the caliper... im replaciung the other one tomorrow.. hope itll be fixed

 

It happened again today while in town and when i turned the o/d off it seemed to be alright. Does this still sound like the vss ,also my cruise control has been acting wierd if i set it at 95 km/h it will go up to 110-115 if i don't catch it

 

Did you ever get this fixed? Mine started to do the same today and was wondering what part I need to fix it and where it would be located.
