Hi folks Anyone on this forum able to go faster than 78-80 mph with similar signiture? Red line is 3000rpm. It will red line in park, but only 2600rpm at 78-80 mph on flat highway.Fuel filter just changed.Or the 4:10 rearend the limiting factor. THX DDOG

At 80 mph, your 4.10's aren't the limiting factor. Find your stock plate and grind it to a #100 profile and you will never bother with the #10 again! Add a 3000 rpm governor spring kit and you won't be limited to 80 mph. The #100 and 3000 GSK are an awesome match and will let the truck pull HARD to 3000 rpm. With stock governor springs, defueling starts around 2200 rpm and curves upward to 2500 - 2600 rpm......the motor will rev to 3000 rpm but VERY slowly when under load - the fuel just isn't there.

I have had 5 Dodge diesels with 12valves 2 410s 3 with 354s the first four all hit the fuel cut off at 2600rpm 75mph with 410s and 215tires the 354s made it to 95 with stock tires. This last 97 runs to 3000 in all conditions pull hard to 3000 and will stay there loaded or not? I have asked the local diesel shop about it but they keep refering to the in nutral it will but not loaded. Has anyone got any ideas what is going on?

mine did to before my mods, but with the 3gsk and #100 plate it pulls even harder beyond 3000rpm.

Plow did yours smoke some when going from 2500 to 3000 when you were raceing or pulling? And did you find anything inside the pump that was out of the ordinary?

First check and see if you are getting full throttle . The cam plate in yours should allow you to hit 3000 . check in pump psi. and if need to pull out the dump valve on the side of the pump on the front inside where your return is and take it apart either shim it or strech the spring out . I run about 35-40 psi in the pump housen . Chris

Exactly what CTDNut said..

U need a different plate in there, The Stock plate will defuel early, and lets face it, our trucks stock are dogs, but they are very forgiving in that form, User friendly so to say. Anyhoos using my own experience between two trucks i have come to this conclusion...

At 70 MPH you will turn with 4.10 about 2200-2300 RPMS
at 70 MPH you will turn with 3.55 about 2000 RPMS

All this tells me is with similarly equiped trucks, transmission, tires and so forth, the only differences between those gear sets is 250-300 Engine RPM and a slight lower end because of that.

SO your truck RPMS make sence, both, because of your gearing, and because of your stock plate.

If you go with the 100 plate (PM NORTHSLOPE, see my gallery for pics of plates ) u need to adjust your governer arm as well, and it would be nice to have your pump ti ing bumped as well to more efficiently burn that extra fuel going in and reduce your smoke as well..

Before all of this though... if you dont already have them....

Get some good guages, at a bare minimum, a pyrometer and boost, with a trans temp as optional...

i would say you will notice the biggest difference when you get the governor springs....ur plate (#10) probbaly even defuels more in the top end with the stock srpings than ur stock plate would...just look at the profile...my estimate is that when u put the the GSK's in with that 10 plate u will have stronger fueling from 1900-2500 and after that start loosing steam....but the 10 plate makes it easier to control egt's than the 100...but if u dont have a "foot drop" disorder then ur good to go....the 100 will make a big top end difference over the 10 plate

If the stock plate makes most trucks defuel at 25 to 2600 like my other 4 did then why doesn't this one? Now I've heard one mention of someone elses truck doing this but no response as to why. My truck is a 97 4x4 5spd 410s with 235 tires. I will top out at 91mph and stay there all day if you keep it on the mat.
