Can the timing slipping effect or make idle adjustment difficult?

It possible could. To much advanced with a low idle i would think could possibly kill the engine. I am no expert though so wait for others to chime in.

If the timing slips enough it will hardly idle, and if enough it will not even start let alone idle. Its happened several times with me, replace the washer and torq. to 160+ not the 144# that the book says.
