Timing advanced!!
Timing advanced!!
I did it yesterday!!! it took about 3hrs. I had never done it before, next time I'd venture a guess of about 1.5 hrs. Finding the pin was interesting, then getting it to move was a challenge, I don't think it had ever been used before. Then moving the crank in small enough increments to hit timing right on was a learning expereince. Once everything was all buttoned up, I had to crank it over quite a bit. After a while it fired and ran like a top. Its definatley louder (more rattly, snappy) going down the road. It also has cooler EGTs. I cant tell yet on the top end power or milage cause I havent gone too far and the roads were snow covered so whenever I got into it the tires would spin (yes even in 4wd). I the timing had slipped to somewhere around 5 or 6 degrees and is now at 16.5.

Wellll.....I finally got to take a longer trip 125mi each way, trip. I'm not impressed with the milage increase i got from doing the timing. I think I gained 1mpg. This was all highway driving at 70mph just under 2k rpm. Now there are two things that may have a factor in this, I'm pretty sure I need to do a valve adjustment, and the winter fuel here is at a 60/40 blend, not the best for power or milage. I'm using a bit of power service to hopefully help that. I guess We'll see as it warms up.
