I am currently hearing the common tick-tick and am curious as to other's experiences. I searched and wasn't really able to find which problem happened more often.

Did replacing the Lift Pump fix the problem, the overflow valve or another item fix the ticking (please specify other eg. fuel filter). Also, how many people's trucks died soon after the ticking and if so what was the culprit.

Stopped the ticking in a friends, I tick and am going to put a new OV in as well.

i have a ticking but you dont hear it up by the motor, it sounds like its back by the fuel tank. Is this the same ticking you are talking about? My truck runs great and has been doing it for atleast 5000 miles(when i bought the truck) I've heard other 12v's with this same ticking so thought it was normal.

Both my trucks and most of my diesel tractors have ticks that come and go.
Fuel pressure on the trucks is has been within specs for the last 100k on both of them.
I've learned to pay no attention to the ticking, it's the nature of the beast.

 

I don't think my tick is towards the rear; from inside the cab it sounds like it is just above my brake pedal but under the hood. Tomorrow I will be changing the fuel filter and checking pressures, maybe (hopefully) changing the filter will fix the problem.

I will keep you guys posted as to what I find out.

 

i had a lift pump give out w/o a sound. it was delivering fuel, but not nearly enough for the engine to run well. now i've got a new noise, which i suspect is my new (about a year/5k mi) lift pump giving out, but not sure yet. i guess it could be the overflow valve too. this noise (rapid, high pitch tapping) is intermittent, doesn't seem to occur until the engine is warm, only happens from just below to just above 2k rpms, and will not happen when reving the engine in neutral. i am planning on replacing my overflow valve first then i think i am going to try replacing my lp with something else, maybe a Holley or something?

 

a buddy of mine had the tick from the driver's side of the engine & I replaced his lift pump & cured the problem, seemed like it would get worse as you drove it & it got hotter, wasn't so bad at first start up, may be worth looking into???? Dusty

 

I changed out the fuel filter and I haven't heard the ticking since. ???
