throttle linkage
throttle linkage
I posted a while back about truck not wanting to upshift and didnt get much so I will go another route. Whenever the truck will not shift, or I should say delays shifting (2700 rpm) the pedal is conciderably stiffer then when the truck is shifting normal. So i was wondering if someone could list all the things that are directly linked to the throttle. Those things would maybe give me a place to start. thanks
Check your TPS sender. How many miles on the truck? They are notorious for failing. Easy replace, $200.00. Do a search, some people are successful in taking it apart and cleaning. Check your accelerator cable for fraying, there is a recall. Check your throttle cable for stretch. that controls 3rd shift. Adjust your bands. If you have the 47-RH tranny thats about all you can do. Good luck
Its not a constant problem though. I can shut truck off go into gas station come out, and take off, and truck will all the sudden not want to shift, and the pedal is very stiff. If I put it in nuetrel and kill it and then start it back up while rolling then put it back in drive it will shift like normal and the pedal will feel like normal. Its like shutting the truck off resets whatever the problem. By the way I have already taken tps off and cleaned it out.
It sounds like your shutdown solenoid isn't staying all the way up.
My bet is that it's all gunked up or rusted, possibly the boot is shot.
Remove the solenoid and clean up the innards, careful not to lose any parts, some will separate when you remove it from the engine. A very light film of silicon grease keeps the plunger moving smoothly.
I've seen this happen a few times, the lift up coil will lift the solenoid all the way but due to the gunk the hold part of the solenoid just won't keep it there. Most times it takes hitting a bump to cause the solenoid to partially drop down, then the problems will start.
Another thing to check is if the two small bolts that attach the bell crank (part the throttle cable attaches to) to the IP are tight or if one is missing.
