Switching PCMs
Listen to this one ...I had been having trans engaugement and disengaugement problems ...I did a new coolant sensor ...it needed one and I drove the truck ...it started to disenguage after the truck would have been sitting after 5 mins after running the truck .
So I had my tranny guy run his scanner while we drove the truck ...It did it the tranny speed sensor would not read and the tranny did its weard stuff and no reading from the speed sensor and then it was fine ... it was reading on the scanner .
And we could repeat the sitting for 5 mins and not reading and then it would read and the truck ran fine .
So we put a new speed sensor on the tranny and it's been running fine ...for now .
The thing is the computer still has the coolant sensor code p0118 and it will not allow the snap-on scanner to erase it .
I have a PCM from the same truck except the other 96 was a 4x4 ...Can I try and swap these PCMs ?
Thanks
Greg

I switched them ...it seems fine ... most of the numbers are the same on the PCM .
I put the new one on the truck and ran it up and down the road by my shop and it seems fine .
I did notice that my truck had after market alarm and it started to work ... I'm thinking they tapped into a power sourse that they should not have and that is what may have effected the pcm .
I pulled all the fuses for the alarm and will pull it out of the truck at a later time.
Thanks
Greg
