strange place for smoke

I was changing oil this past weekend, with hood open and running, i reached in to hit the throttle a bit, noticed a puff of white smoke, i had to climb up on the bumper to see where. was coming from the turbo backside. not the connection at the downpipe, seemed like there was another joint, looked like a gasket of some sort was pushed out. im guessing when i finally get around to putting my new exaust on , i can take it off , clean it up and replace the gasket?

Where the turbos turbine housing bolt's to the manifold? There is a Standard T-3 gasket there that can blow out. When i replace the one on my truck i am going with a 1985 Nissan 300ZX 6cyl turbo to manifold gasket it is a very nice piece.

Here is a Picture and you can get the gasket by itself. It's a very thick metal crushable gasket. Works great on other T-3 style turbo applications.

And here is a link to it.

im talking about on the back side of the turbo, it looks like turbo, then some mounting flange, then to the down pipe, smoke shoots out between the turbo and whatever the flange thing is.

There are about 5 bolts that bolt the elbow housing to the turbo and there is a gasket in there in stock form. Its a thin metal sealing gasket. I installed an E brake once and it said to leave that out when i put the brake on. It did not leak without it, but when I took that brake off and put the stock adapter elbow back on the turbo I put the same metal original gasket back in and no leaks.

are you talking about the v-band clamp that holds the 90* elbow to the back of the turbo. the downpipe mounts to the 90* elbow. you probably just need a new v-band clamp or tighten the one you got.
