Hi guys I'm back again. I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 automatic 4X4 turbo diesel.This time I have a problem with the stock automatic trans cooler that is mounted in front of the radiator. One of the lines has a hole in the coupling where the hard line turns into the rubber line. It is directly underneath the crankshaft pulley. Some jerk wrapped it in electrical tape probably 5 years ago. Now, it is leaking a quart+ a day.
So I bought an aftermarket cooler, and some brass fittings that go from 1/2" ID to 5/16" ID hose. I figured out that the OD of the hard lines that I want to cut are 1/2" OD so I was going to cut both lines and use a piece of 1/2" ID hose and the brass fittings to reduce it to 5/16" to fit the aftermarket cooler.
Will this work? Will 1/2" ID hose stay clamped on the hard trans cooler lines, directly under the crankshaft pulley, with no barbs??

From what I've been told the size of the stock tranny lines are already on the small side.Reducing to a smaller size than stock is really going to restrict the flow and possibly cause you to overheat the tranny. I say posssibly because maybe you don't stress your tranny that much. You may want to invest in a tranny temp gauge if you use that cooler.Just a thought.
Well, I think, at this point, losing more than a quart a day on stock hose is worse than 5/16" hose that doesn't leak. The length is going to be much less than the stock hose also. The stock lines snake around and switch from metal to rubber at least 2 times.
I took the electrical tape disaster off and it now pisses out at a constant rate so I have to cut these lines... Because I'm pretty sure the lines and cooler are a 1 piece dealer only item?? That's how it looks like to me, only flare nut fittings on the trans to disconnect them, other than that it is all one piece.

No, I just replaced my two lines on the drivers side of the truck coming in and going out of the stock cooler. They weren't cheap, $130 I think but they did the job. I would also put that aux cooler in.
All better now. I just removed the line from the cooler and cut it, slipped 1/2" ID trans hose on the cooler and the hard metal line near the engine. MINT! SHIP IT!
