Stiff Throttle half way down

My throttle pushes easy for about the 1st half, then it just hits a spot where it's a lot harder. I thought my foot was going to fall off on a 4 hour road trip 2 weekends ago!

Somebody told me it had something to do with the rack travel and AFC even with running no plate and suggested a get a boost elbow. I don't really understand all that....anybody that can translate into English for me?

I thought only the 215 HP pumps were the ones that had potential issues with running plateless.

Have you had the throttle cable recall done? Cable will fray and get hard.

Are you getting any boost signal to the AFC? They fully retract after a few pounds.
A boost elbow is going to put more air into the engine Stay that way until you get some gauges.
Low boost is only going to make lots of smoke if you have the fuel to make it.

When I first start my truck I hit a stiff spot when I first depress the pedal but it doesn't seem as bad when driving. I'd checkout you linkage and verify it is not binding. There are directions for adjusting the linkage too:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/T_Cable/diesel_tc.htm

Mine was bucking on me till I replaced a few springs that were missing. With the springs missing the pedal was too sensitive and with the springs in it solved bucking but gave a stiffer feel to pedal. I got the springs from Cummins I believe for around $20. But....that's another linkage issue. When your looking at linkage verify all your springs are connected and not worn out.

Have you messed with the starwheel? If its to tight you get a very stiff pedal.

It's fully forward. Guess I will try backing it off a couple turns. But again, the first half of pressing the throttle is not stiff. Doesn't matter what the conditions are, could be starting out, cruising steady, anything. When I unhooked the throttle cable itself it moves fine. Guess I'll check the linkage with the truck off and see if that affects it.
