Steering box want a good one

Well I have had it, gone through 5 boxes in 5 months, looking at the 841mx , does anyone like or dislike this steering box? I am looking for easier feel.
And who to order from?
thanks.

How about a DSS stabilizer?
the other boards I used to follow didn't seem to find any one box really any better than another. They are fairly easy to rebuild yourself too, and the parts are readily available from both the ******* and other shops- it's a common box.

I love the 841mx.

Long story short: I got a bonus at work and ordered an 841mx. Truck steered real light........felt about like drive by wire, took some getting used to. Anyway, only thing wrong is that the truck would not turn lock to lock sitting still on pavement. I called PSC and they recommended an 841m over the 841mx, so sent me one free of charge. I install it and did not like it compared to the lightness of the mx........and still not turning lock to lock, so it wasn't the box. I liked the mx so much that I took the m off and put the mx back on. That's been 3 or so months and it's awesome. It does take a little bit of getting used to but it steers better than my wife's civic!! So much for long story short, lol.

Waylan, do you have the support installed ? is your pump up to the task?
I should be getting my MX in about a week or so.

Phil,

I had already installed a DSS on the factory box, so yes, I have the support installed. The pump is a whole nother story.

Since it was not turning lock to lock while sitting still on dry pavement (it would turn 2/3 of the way towards full lock on either side, but not ALL the way), I got to reading and found a website that showed how to modify a factory steering box for more pressure. I did the mod to the valve, put it back together and it worked great. The next morning I pulled in to work and worked the steering lock to lock about 4 times just to make sure it was working and BAM......something broke. Now I had no power steering and no assisted brakes. I knew it was the pump. Replaced pump with napa pump that does the same thing. I have another valve to put in it from PSC that will up the pressure to a safe range, just haven't made time. It's not really a big deal either way.

Let me know when you put your valve in and how it works for you.
Could you send me a link where you got the info from?
thanks.

Here is the power steering pump mod link:

http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.co...rsteering.html

I am afraid to put the higher pressure valve in right now since if it breaks the pump it will require time to change the pump out again. The valve was only $5 from PSC, so if it works it will be a cheap investment.

Is there something causing your steering box's to go bad? Were the replacements just not any good?

Not sure they all had stiff steering, and play about 4" or so.
I have ordered the stabilzer for the box, just waiting for it to get here?and a new box from PSC. The one I am using now has very easy steering, just about 5" play .
