Starting problem...

I had this problem a while ago, my truck will fire then die right away, and do it about ten times, and then will finally fire, so i did a lot of reading on here and found most people say to replace return fuel line, so i did with diesel grade fuel line, and it was back to normal, started fine and all, now it is back again... any other ideas what it could be? thanks alot.

Idle too low?
Don't trust the dash tach.

Could be a leak at the fuel heater/sediment bowl gaskets below the lift pump. I also had a problem with my lift pump getting weak and replaced it.

Big reason I quit replacing just the short return hose behind the engine is that often in the struggle to get the hose on blind the metal line on top of the bell housing will get a small crack where the hold down tab is welded on.
Almost impossible to see if it's leaking there, have to go by feel.
If this metal line leaks hard starting doesn't usually happen until you're lower than about 3/4 tank.

Now I always run diesel rated hose all the way from engine to tank.
Not only is it an easier job it also eliminates future supply system problems.
