They're 12 point. No "special" tools needed. Most basic Craftsman (and many cheaper) socket sets have 12 point sockets instead of the stronger 6 point sockets. If you gotta run out and buy one because all your stuff is 6 point, it's 10 mm.

And a gorilla at Cummins tightened them.

Ain't that the truth. Must have a brother who puts on the oil filters.

Actually 12 point bolts are designed to stretch, that's why they're so hard to remove.

What do you mean by 12 point bolts being designed to stretch? 6 point hex bolts are designed to stretch just as well...I'm not understanding what you're saying? The 12 point design has the advantage of having more contact points and a smaller diameter...useful on head bolts/studs etc., where space is tight.

put another wrench on the end of your 10mm and that extra leverage will usually get em free (may bend your 10, but at least they will come out)

That is what I did. I have a long handled 3/8 drive ratchet, but couldn't pull straight on it. Kept slipping off.

grade 8 is best!

go to napa

bring the old bolt with you, match it to a nut for dia. and pitch. then pick out a bolt the same length that will thread into that nut.

i went with 6 point

10-4 on the gorilla!
