Starter Contacts
Hey guys , I was running one of my trucks yesterday and parked it at my buddies shop and when I cam out it would not crank .
We have been getting rain ... I mean lots of it for the past day , not sure if the water would have effected the contacts .
So I stuck a broom handle and tapped on the starter from the top and it fired right up .
I am down my shop right now , I parked the truck inside to dry out , truck fired right up a few times .
I have a new backup starter I am going to throw in , the starter looks original with 185K ... I guess its about time .

If you didn't have another starter already, I'd say get the contact kit from LarryB. $40 and an hour later, you have a starter "almost" good as new. Worked great for me.

I just finished swap ... There was a broken starter bolt , I was lucky enough to be able to get a right angle drill and put a nice 1/8 hole thru the center of the left over bolt . Then I wedged a small screw driver in and she twisted right ... How lucky is that .
I had a set of new bolts in stock so I replaced them all , figured those bolt are known to fracture .
It was a dirty job but worked out for the best .
This starter was going in a cummins conversion I was doing , I will pick a set of contacts or possibly a complete starter for Larry in the future .
Thanks
greg
