Sons Truck Allison?

Hi All, My son has a 97 2500. He has upped his hp. And now the trans seems to be going. KIDS! I did a search on this and did not find anything on others doing a swap to the Allison trans. in the Dodges. I am a ford owner and have seen them going that way with your Cummins. I just like old ford iron, have a 1978 F250 And when the motor does go I will put a cummins in it. Thanks for your help, great site and nice people!

NOW...thats a plan! I love it!

When the rest of my 97 2500 Ram goes I'll pull the engine and drop it in a Ford! Oooops...I'm letting my Blue Oval love out of the bag! Sorry.

But really...I love Mopar too.

Most people spend the money and go with DTT or ATS, and not the Allisons. If you want a tranny that likes power, those are the ones to get. From what I understand, Allisons dont like any added power. Anything more than stock craps them out. Glad to hear about your ferd, getting a cummins.

Welcome to DTR, ERV. Glad to have you here.
I dont know much about the Allison tranny's.
However, just out of speculation, I would guess that a DTT, ATS or one of the other high performance tranny's would be a better bet than going to an Allison.

Im basing this on the fact that the guys at one of the above shops will work with you and provide a tranny that is built for your hp levels.

the allisons are not much better than a stock dodge tranny. i had a friend just drop 5k on getting his allison to hold. he had a 215 quad program in it and it kicked the tranny out every time in 5th gear. check out goering, ats, dtt, suncoast and a few others i am missing. they all can build a great tranny.

From what I understand the Allison 2000 series can handle a little more than the STOCK Dodge trans but the Allison comes with MUCH MUCH MORE COST to beef up than the Dodge trans, my bet is still on the HP Dodge trans for cost and availabilty. Plus there's probably more outfits out there that can build a darn fine Dodge trans (more selection) than there are an Allison trans thus reducing the Dodge trans price.
