smoky, rough starts when cold

When the temps drop into the 30's and colder my 95 CTD starts really rough, lumpy and smoky.
Once it warms up it smoothes out with full power
It seems worse than in prior years.
The truck is stock with about 180k miles.
Any thoughts out there

If the grids check out my next guess would be your injectors are worn.

The actual heater is between the intake manifold and the tubing running to it. It is a square aluminum block, about 3" x 3", and will have 2 fairly heavy gauge wires leading from 2 terminals down to a solenoid pack on the drivers inner fenderwell. You can check there for 12V with a VOM or test light.

Infidel, do you have another link, that one appears to be broken.

It appears the entire dodgeram.org website isn't working.
Hopefully it's just a server problem, too much info there to lose.

That is a GREAT Photo Bill!

And I have seen people argue here that it is relatively safe to use a shot of ether when you need it even though it will hit that long before it reaches the combustion chamber, blowing the intake off the engine.

Do the grid heaters always get that hot or did you leave them energized a little longer than normal?
