Sluggish start

Guys, my 96 12V is giving me some starter problems. Whenever I start, regardless of use or temp, the truck sounds as if its cranking on low/dead batteries. If I give some throttle she starts everytime. Vehicle was fine when I left for overseas, 8 months later (without being used much at all) it feels as if my batteries are done. I changed the batteries, and throttle position sensor just after having the transmission rebuilt (auto). Prior to that I have replaced the lift pump and fuel line (with flexi hose not steel).
Ive had a tonn of work on the truck, complete new floor pan, inner and outer sills, repaint, front end; this is getting annoying!
Any help appreciated!

Let me look back and see but my truck does the same thing, just have to blip my pedal when I crank and she starts right up though. Let me look back here and check.

Get used to giving it a little throttle or turn the idle up.

The way the idle linkage hammers against the adjustment screw slowly cuts a notch in the screw that lowers the idle.
Turning the screw a quarter turn to get out of the notch will bring the idle back up.

It could also be the old fuel in your tank. The older diesel fuel used to keep for decades but I'm not so sure about the new stuff.
