Setting timing problems
I've spent all day messing with timing as I am convinced it can't be right. No matter what I do, I get 4.84mm of lift on this 2174 CPL truck. I have no idea if it's been timed before, but I doubt it would have been advanced to over 16 like it seems to be now. The breakoff screw was intact when I bought it and no gauges or anything?
Truck smokes like crap when it's under 50F for 10 minutes, white smoke that makes you noise and eyes burn. EGTs climbing hills will hit 1300F on occasion, stock plate is only bumped forward a tiny bit. Wastegate is pulled and boost will hit 18-21psi max.
Can it do the above and timing be set to 16ish?
I used the dropped valve method 2 different ways and came to the same mark and same measurement both times...
Thanks
Joel

Mine will boost to 21psi If I have the rpms up past 2100 or so. Most of the time max seems to be 18psi or so.
I think I'm gonna replace some fuel lines tomorrow and ditch the preheater assembly.

Pull the linkage off the side of the pump, and verify what pump you have. If you happened to have a rebuilt on there that is a 160/175hp pump, 4.84mm is very retarded.
