Question setting timing on 98 12 v questions!

hi

i am going to do the kdp sooooo !

while i am in there i was thinking of setting the timing at 16 deg .

factory is suppose to be 14 . truck runs fine now .

would i notice any improvment by moving it to 16 ?

i see a lot of post on timing slipping , how do you prevent this from happening ?

what tools are a must have to do this job ?

i have english dial indacator but not a metric one , must i have a metric one ? how much travel must it have ?

what is the correct procdure for setting the timing ?

thank you !

You can use an SAE dial, you just have to convert the measurements. When I did mine the other day my truck ran fine but I was only at 3mm of lift which is 8-10*. I set mine to 18* which is 6mm lift = .362". Use electronic parts cleaner or brake cleaner to spray the pump shaft down with to clean off oil residue, that will help keep your truck from slipping the timing after you put it all back together.
