scared to keep her....
Well, I just might throw in the towel. The second HG failure and with as much coolant that has been found in the motor....well, I'm just too darned scared to keep her. What should I do?
Man, I have never felt this crappy before...

By the way, I am getting hg repaired right now. I can't see passing on a truck that might have a chance for a "normal" lifespan.
I guess if i wanted a reson to buy an new one...this might be the one.
The only good 06's left are QC's. No more mega cabs...

was the head properly torqued? what gasket did you use... with 17 degree timing a stock gasket might not hold, i think mines barely there at 16.5 degrees, and i check the head periodically to make sure its on right...
Rick
Mine held towing heavy at 17*...that shouldn't be nearly enough to blow it with your mods!
I'd guess the head/block wasn't prepared correctly if anything! Did you reuse the old bolts??

ARP's went in first HG. We did not resurface the heads that time. We were so darn stupid. The above was done this week. Its the water/coolant I'm worried about now. How the hell do you ensure there are no problems with that?
I would flush the radiator before you fill it back up with antifreeze. If youre really concerned about it put in new rod bearings and main bearings. They are cheap and the only part that may have a little damage from the water getting in the oil.
Has anyone thought about the oil cooler? Some times when they start leaking you'll get cross contamination like that. It is rare but have seen one so far. I pulled mine out and air checked it on the bench. It's sandwiched between the oil filter housing and the block. If youre saying that half the cooling system is in the oil then that may not be it. Usually the oil pressure overrides the cooling system pressure and mixes more oil in the radiator than vice versa. Good luck.
No man, it was definetly the HG. I was driving down the road and the warm floor air went cold. The water temp started climbing at the same time. Pulled over, looked under the hood. Bubbling coolant overflow bottle. Not good. Shut the motor off immediately. Had it towed to the shop and while the engine cooled, the crankcase slowly filled with coolant. Once the heads were removed, we could see the bad area in the HG. The pressure went to the high side of the two systems.....the heater core. Once there was sufficient pressure, there was no circular water flow. Just an ever-expanding air bubble.
The best way to get the oil out of the cooling system is to put a coolant flush connector in the heater hose line and back flush it after you get it up to operating temp. To help it stay hot hook the hose onto the drain on the water heater. I have done this and im a plumber it wont hurt the water heater it is good to flush it out ever so often anyway.
