Replacing fuel lines

I took the bed off my truck to fix the fuel sending unit and I realized my lines from the tank to the engine are pretty rusty. I'm thinking while I have it apart maybe I should just replace them with rubber diesel hose. I read on here you can use a vulcan draw straw to replace the rusty connections on the tank so that should work on that end. My question is how do you connect the hose on the lift pump side? I see the metal lines switch to a braided line then back to metal. Ideally i think it'd be easiest to make the connection from the rubber hose to the braided because that's the easiest to access, but i can't really tell how they come apart? Do they just unscrew, it looks like a weird connection to me? Also if i can get them apart can i just use some kind of barbed fitting to connect the hose to the braided line? Thanks

Should hook to the pre-filter before the LP IIRC. I made up SS lines with hose on each end because I had it at work, but good quality Diesel rated hose all the way works well also.

After a second look I think it might be easier just to run it to the prefilter than trying to disconnect the braided part and hook in there. Where would I find a fitting to go from the hose to the prefilter?

Both the supply and return lines have a short section of hose between the bellhousing and back of the engine that are attached with hose clamps. No need to mess with the braided line.
Very easy just to abandon the entire metal and braided lines, just hard to see where the hose is.

Attach the return where the red is on the left end here.
The rubber part of the supply line ends right about on the right end of the hose in red.

Ok, so you're saying all I have to do is remove the old rubber hose on the supply and return and slip the new hose on and clamp it? That sounds simple enough, but I didn't even see that on my initial inspection, i'm sure reaching it will be fun. Thanks.

Supply line at the pre-filter is easy, return line hidden behind a bunch of junk isn't much fun, but if I could get my big arms in there, i am sure you can also.

Look at Infidels photo gallery, he has a nice diagram of the locations.

I found both lines this afternoon, definitley a tough spot but doable. I'm gonna order the hose tonight, thanks for the guidance.

Not trying to hijack but I have a related question.

How much (feet) of each line and what size is needed to replace both supply and return all the way to the tank? Short bed, quad cab is what I have. I've been meaning to do this but haven't yet. Thanks for the good thread.

Never done a quad cab but an extended cab takes about 14' x 2.
Quality hose is pricey, well worth your time to crawl under with a tape measure.

FWIW hogman, I got 11' x 2 and had enough. There wasn't MUCH left over, but that was on an ECLB, so YMMV.
