To replace the NV4500 or to NV5600 swap

Hey guys, new to the forum here. I have a recently purchased 96' Ram with the 12-valve and a torn up nv4500. I'll make this short and sweet. Is it worth it (money-wise) to swap in a stock remanufactured nv5600 or just to rebuild the nv4500 that's already in the truck? Just looking for something reliable that can handle decent power but nothing too crazy (I'm looking at doing a turbo upgrade, injectors, FASS pump, exhaust, and intake). The cheapest nv5600 I could find rebuilt was from these guys, https://reman-transmission.com/trans...s/?code=NV5600. Not sure how much in parts and labor it would be to swap that in but since it's already a manual I'm sure that helps. Any advice appreciated

Skip the Fass and slide the money toward the 6spd or 5spd rebuild. A couple decent filters and good size tubing is all you really need with a 12valve.

I do enjoy the 6spd in the gf's jeep, but I'm too cheap to go there on my trucks. The 5spds last fine for my use.

I agree with u2slow 100%

FASS stuff is a complete waste of cash on a 12V motor.

Just get a good rebuilt NV-4500. It is a good shifting, common to locate transmission option.
I do not really see the NV5600 as much of an upgrade and also not my favorite choice for a DD truck.

My mechanic told me to stick with the NV4500. It's a better transmission and there is a whole lot more parts available for it.

Sounds like a smart dude.
I would have said the same thing and I have driven a Dodge with a NV-4500 as my daily driver for almost to 30 years.

I would rebuild your nv4500, or do a 6spd swap. I can normally get through a rebuild for what shops want for just a core charge.

Herself has a 6spd Jeep, and I really like the closer gear spacing.
