I've only replaced head gaskets on overhead cam engines so this push rod engine is new to me so my questions maybe dumber than expected.

Why do I have to remove the exhaust and intake manifold? I see lots of people removing these parts before pulling the head. I have also removed the hood for easy access. I'm going to use an engine lift to remove the head so weight is not an issue. If I dont have to remove the exhaust manifold then do I need to remove the injectors?
