racing throttle
racing throttle
96 ctd 3500 4x4
I posted about this a few weeks ago, tried a few things.
Once the truck is warm, doesnt seem to happen cold, the fuel can get stuck at anywhere from 1500 to 2000 rpms. On the higher side it will fall on its own, but not to less than 1300.
1. the truck does not get regularly driven lately
- I hosed everything around the linkage with wd heavily, seemed to free up for a bit
- Had the cable recall performed about 3 weeks ago (could they have b.s.'d me and not fixed?)
-I put on (2) heavier return springs, way too much pedal pressure, but they are still on
- A few years back I seem to remember swapping out the old linkage arms and ball fittings, Although I dont recall Why
I need some help getting this thing figured out, winter is here and its my winter ride.
-There is a wound spring in the front of all the linkage, can these go out?
-Linkage a bit rusty, can the ball ends on these get so crpped up the wont roll correctly?
Any ideas, therories, or "I had that" would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

After checking back, and looking at other posts, could it be a sludged up tps thats causing my throttle to stick?
I see alot of posts about cleaning and adjusting this thing, and yet, Ive never looked for mine, wouldnt even know what to look for?
So? A sticking throttle from the TPS?

Disconnect the throttle cable and cruise cable from the bellcrank and check your idle. Look at the cables for frayed wire. Look by the rear of the pump for anything dropped down touching the linkage. I had the fuel return hose drop down and occasionally bump the throttle and hold it at 1200 or so. If idle still hi, disconnect the link going to the gov arm and see if linkage lines up with ball socket. Adjust linkage swivels as needed.
I have thouroughly inspected everything and the linkage moves freely.
When the idle races, I can pop the hood and push it all back to normal without any resistance.
Thats what is making it confusing

I think I might have too. The recall for the cable supposidly was done less than a month ago, I have the receipt sayin it was completed.
I was just hoping someone had an idea. On the phone the tech at dodge started rambling about the TPS.
Im sure the dealer wont bother to clean, only replace and bill me. I just didnt know if the TPS could be causing the throttle to hang up. I also dont think they replaced the rod ends on the linkage during the recall

The tps would have to be packed full of dirt to hinder the throttle, not likely to happen. Your trans would most likely never shift into od. Easy enough to remove the tps, just two screws then see if it works smoothly.
I think your problem is when replacing the cable the dealer messed up on steps 17-20 here http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/T_Cable/diesel_tc.htm
