Questions on 12 valve

I am buying a 1996 12 valve this week, anything extra important to check when inspecting? Does there happen to be a sticky on this?

Is there a block number to watch out for? If so, where is it located?

What are the important things to add? Fuel system mods for instance?

I have been told the KDP has been done. How can i visually check this to be sure?

What gauges should be installed on the truck, I am unsure what is there now.

Thanks.. gary

When looking at a used vehicle my top three are mileage, maintenance, and rust.
The "53" block has only been an issue to the 24 valve as far as I know.
Performance mods are endless and I suggest you address that one in a separate thread.
The KDP fix my be visible with a bore scope through the timing case cover with the oil filler tube removed.
Boost and EGT. If you have an automatic add a transmission temp gauge. Fuel pressure is optional.
Being a 96, it has a 47RE. The RE is subject to electrical noise issues. Rust is a fair indication you may wind up with this problem.

I am buying it down south, was told no rust, mileage under 200,000, valve and spring upgrade, turbo upgrade, rebuilt tranny.

I had forgotten about the cycling of the Torque Converter, is that the electrical noise problem you were talking about?

thanks.. .Gary

Yes, also referred to as gear hunting. Common source for the noise is bad diodes in the alternator and bad electrical grounds and connections. Some of the wiring is also shielded, if that has been compromised it will also be a source.
