pump timing help
pump timing help
i am very active in the grooming of snowmobile trails in michigan. a felow grooming club is having trubles with their tucker terra cat 2000 witch has a 12v in it and has a bit over 6000hrs on the clock. they said when they rev it up to 2000rpms or above it falls on its face with white smoke and misses and carrys on. i am very shure that it the timing slipped. as that is what i told them. but their question's were...when they re-time it will it slip time soon after? and being that the gear slipped does that mean that the shaft is worn? tucker themselves told them that they needed a new pump (i think they just want to sell them a new pump). they were also told that the shaft was splined forwitch i highly doubt. i would think that the shafts would be the same thats in our trucks. what do you guys think? or am i feeding a line of bull? an answer real soon would be awsome as they need this groomer back on the trail asap. thank you all very much in advance
Might be worth replacing fuel filters first and checking fuel pressure...lift pump may be going south. Cold weather you need to be sure you're using additive or blending #1 to keep the fuel from gelling and plugging filters.
I think that the shaft is the same tapered one on that application it will just need a good cleaning and a proper tightening after setting the timing. It could also be a plugged fuel filter, bad overflow valve or air in the fuel system.
The shaft could maybe be keyed but not likely splined .
If they don't like what you are telling them let them know i can give you the direct number for the bridgeway cummins tech that covers that part of the state he is a friend of mine and does all the marine, log skidders, hydro axe, ect, ext, for the entire state above hwy 72 and spends a lot of time in the summer on boats over your way. If you see a red Peterbuilt with a small crane on the right rear corner that would be him.
He is a very well respected good mechanic on all types of cummins except for bombing dodge applications for that he comes to me
and he is always a little freaked out about how i know this stuff
