pump timing

You can see from my signature that I just did a good bit of modifications to my truck. Now it runs a little rough at idle until about 1200 rpm and then it smooths out. The pedal is VERY touchy as compared to stock. I believe that I need to adjust my fuel pump timing. What advance do you suggest? I have read how to do it and I am very mechanically inclined so I am sure I can do it myself if I have the time and tools. Where do I find the dial indicator adapter and gear puller? How much do they cost? How long with this job actually take me?

In case I don't have the time, do you know anyone in the State College, Pennsylvania area that you would trust to do this for me?

Thank you very much for all of the help.

The very touchy throttle sounds more like your gsk isn't adjusted right

I set the new springs to the same location as the stock springs. I understand that this may be the cause of my problem but which way do I turn the nut and how far. Thanks

I agree, one clich looser on each with help the touchiness, especially with the cruise on.

Since you have a 94 model year you should have shims that came out of your stock springs? If so did you install the 3k with them if you did this will cause a touching throttle. Personnally I like the touchy throttle it seems more responsive I also prefer the spring seats that are for standard tranny, they seem to come on quicker.

Wheelin66:

Great upgrades. I've got the same set up but have my timing advanced. I started at 16 and set it back to 15.5. Seems a bit quieter and still runs well. Mileage the same at both. Seems most go between 15 - 16 for timing. Do that and you will note some gains as well as some decrease in EGT's. Snap-on or Miller have the parts that you need. Pricey but if you plan to keep adjusting it worth it. Otherwise cheaper to find someone in your area to do it.
