pump question

pump question

Ok here we go w/a dumb question looking for a toy got a daily hauler.Looking at a 96 2500 club cad long bed 12v my question is can I put a 215 pump from a 97-98 truck or just hop up the one that is in the truck can I get the same hp from the 96 pump?

If the 96 is a stick it has the 215 pump. If its an automatic it has the 180 pump. Either way you will get plenty of power out of the pump to get to 400 hp without much trouble. The auto trans will be the weak point.

At high horsepower levels, the 180 pump actually puts out more fuel...

The 180 will respond better to max rack travel.

I have heard this also, it was near or a hair more than the 215.

The rack travel makes sense, especially since the 215 pumps tend to like the plates a hair back from full forward.

Yes...a deep cut plate on a stock(never benched) 215 pump will run its best about 2mm from full forward, any more than that they just seem to make smoke and heat.
