Pump lead timing

I heard of this before where pump rebuilders will put lead timing while the pumps on the bench.I will be getting the pump timed. How would you tell if lead timing was done??The timing will be set to 15.5 degrees. If lead timing is 6 degrees then the total timing would be 21.5 degrees...Is this right?I'm just concerned of blowing a head gasket or streching the head bolts...of going to high..

You can run up to 18* without any problem. The pump lead timing is done inside the pump. 5 to 6* would be a good number to start with. I don't know how to do it but when my bud built my pump in Germany he set the pump lead to 6* and told me to set timing @ 13.5*. Then adjust normal timing for there to find the sweet spot.
