pulling the engine
hello everyone thanks for looking. i am gonna be pulling the engine out of my 98 12v just to freshen it up a bit and was wondering what if anything i should do while im in there im planning to make some power once i get a new tranny so is there any internal upgrades i should do or just really anything to the whole engine that i should do since i want to make 750-1000 hp on fuel alone so anything that would prepare me for that would be nice. thanks for the support
What you gonna do for mods to get to the 700+area? 700 is about max for a stock P pump? You gonna use spray? Who's injectors you planning on using? To get 1000rwhp on fuel, is a major undertaking. Whats you maximum rpm you planning on spinning?
Well for starters a normal engine hoist and stand might not cut it. The engine by it self with no fluids is around 1100 pounds. Really the only repair I can think of is to pull the gear cover and check all the bolts and pins for loose ones. As for modifications, head studs and a fire ring ( O ring) upgrade to the head gasket. Might need a block girdle on the bottom end. That's all I can think of.
if your planning on using it around town then it would help to have twins to provide enough airat that level of hp without rolling coal everytime your foot taps the go pedal. Stud Girdle kit would be a good idea along with head studs, bolts and mains. IMHO get the bottom end balanced. Your going to need build heads. Heavy duty valve springs, ported polished and, like above stated, get it fire ringed.
Dumping in fuel is as easy as buying larger injectors(say 90hp sticks), but you will need to ensure that you have enough air to burn it all remember that.
Theres also a full stainless stell exhaust manifold around here that is said to really turn up the heat(and the numbers show it). Expensive, but may be worth it. Good luck

You can remove the head, if you need to cut some weight. The entire truck has to come apart. The front end (AC, engine rad, intercooler, brace, bumper) as to come out, the transmission as well. The hood might be another good idea. Good luck. Take pictures so we can follow along at home. I lift my 12V and 24V engine with a 2ton engine hoist.
this thread explained it to me well.
