Problem with hard starting
Problem with hard starting
I'll try to make this short.
Girlfriend has a 95 12 valve. You have to crank it for a good 3-5 seconds to get it to fire even if you just shut it down immediately before. My 99 fires pretty much instantaneously when you crank on it, as did my old 1990, even if they had sat all night.
Well hers had a fuel leak which i though was the problem in the line by the tank. I dropped the tank and fixed that because i thought it was losing its prime. It is not any better. Although it used to be if it sat for a couple weeks you would have to bleed the injectors, but do not know if it is the same way since i fixed the leak. It has not sat long enough.
Back when it was leaking, i put a fuel pressure gage on it at the inlet of the filter and was getting 20 psi at idle, 30 when i revved it. The only thing else i can think of might be the lift pump but that kind of pressure does not indicate that it is weak, just maybe letting it backflow back to the tank?? I dont know, any help is appreciated.
The only thing i can think to do would be to replace the lift pump or put a check valve in it between the pump and tank.

What is her idle speed?
On the P-pumped trucks if the idle is too low you need to give it a crack of throttle to instantly start.
Try starting it with just a little throttle, I think you will find it starts instantly.
I usually do that anyway.

I forgot to mention that. It will start instantly if you blip the throttle. So you just think it might be the idle speed? I notieced the other day it was a little low. Should be about 750 rpm in drive with A/c i think. It is about 750 in park with no a/c. I'll give that a try.
thanks
