Plastic cover under intake

I was wondering. I am working on the engine to do timing and saw this plastic cover right above where the pump and engine meet. The plastic cover looks warped and there something yellow underneath. What is it and do I need to do anything about it?

I attached an image with the cover I am talked about highlighted. The part I know to be warped is where you can't see in the diagram because the pump is in the way. It looks to be the entire length of the engine as seen in the diagram.

thanks!

Joel

It's just for cutting down engine noise from valve lifter area. Not really necessary, I have left them off and haven't noticed any difference in noise level. Check the rubber seal around the cover if it is cracking or leaking now is the time to change it, if you're taking the injection pump off.

I am just setting timing, so pump stays on. Whats the seal for that I would be replacing? It's not sealing now as the cover is heat warped and has lifted on the top edges.

There is a steel cover over the tappet access. On top of that is sound deadener, which is likely what you are talking about. You can rip the insulation off and no harm will come of it, if thats what you want to do.

I'll just leave it, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an item in need of repair.

Thanks for the help!
