Unhappy P-Pump died

Well fellas, to make a long story short, my pump has at least three scored barrels and I don't have $1600 for a new pump or even $725 for a rebuilt... No way to work now either means I'm pretty much screwed. Which is the worst part because as a disabled veteran jobs in my area are pretty hard to come by and so I am pretty much at a loss right now. Basically, all I can do is rant and hope to god that I stumble on one heck of a deal

Man I wish it was that simple... Don't have enough room on either of my cards and so that pretty much leaves me with selling my pulling tractor

I have found a 250hp pump off of an 8.3 that was in a garbage truck for $500. I know the shafts are the same and the linkage is transferable, but I just hope that the oiling is the same. But, it is used and that makes it a crap shoot since there is no warranty

ebay seller jeepntoy was just selling off a load of parts off a 94 ctd, he seems to be decent type - maybe he's got a pump?

second choice, look here -

price is right and they have a good rep. If you can squeeze it out, maybe...

Best of luck,

The 8.3 oiling is not the same......nothing a pump shop can't fix though.

You know, I had been told that before and knew it would have to be addressed... But, just out of curiosity, what is the difference? size of the fittings, placement of the oiling lines?

youll regret selling your tractor, try not to. if your gonna pay $500 for the used 8.3 pump that has no warranty by the time you get it fabricated, installed, and everything right you might be close to the $725 for a rebuilt. hope you get everything squared away, good luck.

Well, so long as it is only location of oil in/out and fittings then I will be fine. We have all the proper flaring and bending tools to custom fab up the oil lines should I need that. Also, no worries about overflow valves or anything of the like as I have a fuel pressure regulator that is simply hooked into the return side of the fuel system. Rustyshakleford found me the same pump that has recently been gone through by cummins. Also, called to double check on the local pump and it would at least have a 30 day warranty that would even cover the engine should the pump cause any damage.

Also, my dad has first dibs on my tractor and I need the money for other things too, this just broke the camel's back...

Where are you getting the price for the pump rebuild?? Go directly to a diesel injection shop. I have had several injection pumps rebuilt under 500.

Really now... Well we have business accounts with all the local shops and they all say $1600 to rebuild mine. What kind of pumps have you had rebuilt for under $500? Where?

How do you know you have scored barrels?? You can get a complete rebuild everyting but barrels for $475 Which is basicaly new seals internaly and going threw the governor and checking it on a test bench. That is what it cost me to get a p pump on a 8.3 cummins gone threw. If you need all new barrels you will be in that $1600 mark.
