I am trying to remember, but wasn't there a rubber piece filling between the rad support and the front grill shell?

You need that. If that's open, put a piece of cardboard in there and tape it. Without it, the air goes under the truck and not through the rad.

Sounds like you did everything. . .

Just for the heck or it, is this an automatic? Bad auto Trans can cause them to run hot too. Check the trans lines after a drive.

What I didn't see was how fast it creaps up. I know the hill you are talking about. . I was just through there a couple of months ago.

How is it when idling?

What I meant was does it heat up while idling?

You don't have your spare on the front do you. . . .

should i take the front tire off but i paid allot of cash 4 that1/4 in plate to mount it . not at all. after running 10 min.got in cab to hold rpms up 5 -10 min of that and up to 180 deg. and stays . today i tryed to rap and clamp apiece of rubber were fan clutch slips at bolt maybe clutch is not giving 100% ,took the hill and noticed sum improvment but not much, checked my hi tec set up when i got bak to find fan slipping. so cant eliminate clutch not giving 100% again it is new.

Had me going for a second

I forget the front of those. Lord knows I hade 4 1st gen diesels.

There's a guy on another forum I know that has one of that vintage. He may be able to shed some light on it. . . I know he's done a ton of work on it. I'll PM you on how to contact him.

It's actually a Mopar car forum, but very similar to DTR in experience and information. Brian is pretty sharp and the only guy I know who might be able to help you. I think he may have had an issue like this with his.

So it just started doing this? Or has it always been this way?

Coolant sensors don't typically go bad but can't rule it out.

I say check your exhaust temps. If something is clogged in your exhaust causing your egt's to go up, that'll do it.

He's not have a dramatic loss of power if the exhaust were clogged.

But the Cat can go. . . Not needed. It's not doing anything but keeping some tree hugger happy

id stick a temp gun or aftermarket temp gauge on it to compare it w factory gauge. your fan clutch will always slip jus a lil bit. even when "locked" it will technically slip a few rpms. is your temp light coming on as well. if i recall correctly the pcm has a different sensor than the gauge and if you can find some one who can connect a scan tool to the truck and see what the PCM is seeing that wud be another thing to try

Autometer is excellent. They stand behind their products and fix or replace a gauge if broken.
