Unhappy oops!!! help

hey guys, So last weekend I pulled my head off my 96 dodge 12v well I guess everything was not disconnected broke one sensor on the back right side of the block which I believe to be my water temp sensor??? I also broke a connector that was on a pigtail on the front of the block any idea what this is so I can order a new one the connector is round with 3 pins in it???

Sounds like the connector to the engine speed sensor, sometimes mistakenly called the crank position sensor.

ok sooo... do i order a new engine speed sensor??? where should the wire go so that i can varify this???

any one know where the engine speed sensor is so i can locate it???

This picture doesn't show the ESS specifically but has many of the others on it


If you go to http://www.dodgeram.org and look under the diesel section, there is lots of good info on there.

The ESS is located on the front of the engine near the harmonic balancer. The wiring harness runs to it branching from the main harness that feeds the alternator and across the front to the injector pump and back along the block to the fire wall.
