Question Oil out the dipstick tube... I'm confused!

The past couple of weeks I've done a couple of hundred mile trips of freeway driving, and each time I get tons of oil out the dipstick tube, and there must be a bunch coming out the blowby tube. The reason I am so confused is because I just get up to 70-75, and cruise. I don't have a boost gauge, but I'd assume I'm not making more than 5 or 6 lbs of boost. I make a lot more boost than that on a regular basis, and don't get much for blowby. I'm kinda worried about the rings, but I really don't know. The dipstick tube doesn't really seal the best anymore, it's kinda loose. Is the case this pressurized that it pops the dipstick out a couple of inches? Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. tonight it spewed out just under a quart of oil.

Check the crankcase vent tube for free flow. Also check the coolant for signs of oil. Hopefully just a headgasket. at the worst.

If you bought the truck used it may have been run with gasser motor oil. This can clog up the screen inside the engine where the blowby tube originates. It is very much a hassle to get at.
You could also try replacing the o-ring on the dipstick so it seals tighter.

Uh oh. Gasser moter oil? I didn't know motor oil came in a diesel variant.

You can't use regular motor oil in this thing?

Diesel motor oil is designed to hold the soot that a diesel engine produces, gasser oil isn't. What happens when you use gasser oil is the soot drops out of the oil and causes sludge deposits. The longer you use the gasser oil the worse it gets. Diesel oil will have a CI-4 rating.

I checked the coolant and it is clean as a whistle. I took a closer look at the dipstick, and the plastic handle piece is broken, so that's why it isn't sealing very well. I also didn't notice an o ring, is it supposed to be on the filler tube or the dipstick handle? I think I'll head to the dealer tomorrow and check out the price of a new dipstick. Do they selll general dipsticks or is my best bet to go through Dodge? Thanks for the help!

definitely fix the dip stick first. Checking the breather is a good idea too. When you buy used from a stranger, you could end up with anything.

I've had her for a year and a half, along with about 30K, so it's safe to say we know eachother really well Gonna cruise over to the auto parts store and get a generalized dipstick tomorrow. As far as the breather, is it safe to jam a hanger up there, or is there something that can be damaged?

If you were to remove the tube from the engine and really work at it you could push the screen off into the engine. If you have had the truck for a year and half, have been using diesel oil and this problem just started it's probably just the dip stick.

Check those cheap little rubber elbow adapter fittings on the vacuum pump lines and see if they have any huge holes in them! Mine did and I fixed it and it significantly cut down my "blowby" volume.
Boy! That vacuum pump can flat SUCK some air!!!

I agree. The vacuum pump is vented into the crankcase, which is no problem, until there is a vacuum leak. Then all the air that gets sucked in through the leak gets pumped through the vacuum pump into the crankcase.
