oil light flickers

you guys were so helpful the last time i worked on my brothers 97 one ton 4x4 stick ctd that i am back. he just did a round trip from central ore. to redding california hauling a bunch of range bull to a sell. all the fixes on trans. clutch, cooling ,front axle seals, i worked on here a few months ago went great and he says thanks. but he did notice his idiot lite on the dash for oil is flickering on and off. during the day it is so dim can't see it but at nite he can. regular oil gauge is rock solid and checking oil all is great. seams like changing throttle position or speed makes it go on and off. i am thinking wire loom is rubbing on firewall or engine causing a intermittent ground. i didn't know it had a oil light. any one have this problem ? again we says thanks for the info. i did a search and saw alot about the gauge no mention of a lite.

Beware of the generic aftermarket autoparts senders, they don't long.
You'll end up spending more money in the long run than if you bought the sender from Cummins in the first place.

is there two oil pressure sending units? because the gauge reads fine. be an easy fix . i assume only one on the drivers side of the block back by the lift pump.

Only one sender. After the signal goes to the PCM it divides it into two signals, one for the gauge, the other for the light. The short for the light probably reacts to cause attention faster than the gauge needle moves.

Sender is closer to the power steering pump than the fuel pump.
